Of Merlin wise I learned a song,--
Sing it low or sing it loud,
It is mightier than the strong,
And punishes the proud.
I sing it to the surging crowd,--
Good men it will calm and cheer,
Bad men it will chain and cage.
In the heart of the music peals a strain
Which only angels hear;
Whether it waken joy or rage,
Hushed myriads hark in vain,
Yet they who hear it shed their age,
And take their youth again.

AU BBC's Merlin

A warlock born in Ealdor and forged in Albion, in a time where magic was feared and persecuted, Merlin found that his destiny was entwined with the Old Religion and New Age. His birth was foretold and prophesied by many, including the Druids who dubbed him 'Emrys', the immortal. He would be the man helped save Camelot, forge one of the realm's greatest kings, be the stuff of myth and legend. Have the hopes of the exiled and banished rest on his shoulders that he would restore the practice of magic to its rightful place.

And he did, for a time.

The stories are well-known, the tales spun and retold, morphed and exaggerated but they all stem from the same few kernels of truth. There was an Avalon, a Camelot, and Arthur. A round table of knights. A series of betrayals and tragedies, intrigues and romances. And there was a Merlin, powerful in the ways of sorcery and magic--and as the Druids surmised, immortal. Centuries have passed and Merlin, now freed from his enchanted prison (it was a tree, large and ancient even in his day, and not a cave), is seeking to to familiarize himself with a world full of a new kind of magic. Technology. Glastonbury, Somerset, England might hold familiar ghosts of a kingdom long gone, memories that ebb beneath a transformed landscape, but his destiny no longer ties him to that place.

He does, however, still retain his magic.

ooc: for RP purposes and fun only. Not Colin Morgan. Not BBC Merlin's creators either, obviously. This AU Merlin exists in the present day but possesses memories of the show's events as his personal history. Liberties taken for the purpose of shenanigans and the need to play with other Arthurian source materials.
